Now on deck, having already hit dozens and dozens of home runs at the Southern California gym run by Rachel and her husband, Alwyn Cosgrove, is Rachel's newest program: Drop 2 Sizes.
A noteworthy approach, Drop 2 Sizes asks you to DITCH THE SCALE -- that nemesis of "dieters" everywhere -- and take account of your progress via your favorite pair of jeans (the ones you haven't been able to zip up for awhile). Trying them on at the beginning, middle and end of the program gives you all the feedback you need!
Being that I am already halfway into Phase Two of the 3-phase, 3-month program, I can honestly say that this program is kicking my butt in a really good way. I've been doing periodized strength training for several years, and D2S is, nonetheless, kicking my hiney! And, I'm seeing results. Now, I did not have 2 sizes to drop before I started the program, but I can't deny that I'm happy with the progress I'm seeing.
I wanted to try this new program out for myself for a couple of reasons:
- I love anything that Rachel does in the fitness world. She knows her stuff, she's got the credentials, she comes up with some smokin' routines, she practices what she preaches (but she's not preachy, which is so refreshing!), and she gets RESULTS!
- I wanted to field/kitchen-test this before I sprung it on my Personal Training clients and small groups.
- Okay, let's be honest. I wanted to see results in my own body, even if it's not a 2-size drop!
The program is well set up, with each day's exercise program laid out for you. There are Strength Training days, Metabolic conditioning days, and "Active Recovery" days. Everything from A to Z is described, pictured, and mapped out. If you get confused (unfortunately there are some typos and some descriptions that may leave you with questions), there is a closed-group Facebook page (Drop 2 Sizes by Rachel Cosgrove Group) (just ask to be "invited") where you can get information, input, and encouragement. Rachel, herself, even chimes in from time to time! There is also a DVD set that will help immensely by bringing you excellent instruction by Rachel and options for doing the workout with limited equipment and/or NO gym. One of my girlfriends is doing just the workout routines since she has her own dietician. Type in "FREESHIP" and you will get, duh, free shipping! :D
The meal plans are all set out for you as well. Rachel worked with a registered dietician to put together clean, healthy meals that include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks. And in case you're wary that this may be another starvation diet (I mean, how ELSE do you "drop 2 sizes" in 12 weeks?), get this: The calorie counts for each day are well within parameters for the typical active female! No starving here! You'll even have "planned splurges" in your weekly calendar of meals. After all, this is about lifestyle change as much as it is about dropping sizes.
Drop me a line, and let me know what you think!
